Ontario changed the Canadian earnings-history scoring factor for the Ontario Workforce Priority stream on October 5, 2026, and announced the update on October 7. Qualifying earnings of C$80,000 or more in a single year within the past five years now receive 10 points, verified by a Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Notice of Assessment.
The Turas Immigration OINP calculator is updated with the new scoring bands. Its scoring update date is October 8, 2026. If you calculated your score earlier, you can use it again to check your estimate.
What changed in the OINP points calculation
Before this update, the highest earnings-history band awarded 8 points for annual earnings of C$70,000 or more. Ontario has added a new 10-point tier for qualifying earnings of at least C$80,000. This gives affected candidates two additional points under this factor.
| Qualifying annual earnings in Canadian dollars | Earnings-history points |
|---|---|
| C$80,000 or more | 10 |
| C$70,000 to C$79,999 | 8 |
| C$50,000 to C$69,999 | 6 |
| C$30,000 to C$49,999 | 4 |
| Below C$30,000 | 0 |
The table covers the earnings-history factor only. Your total expression of interest (EOI) score includes other factors.
Does Ontario update an existing EOI automatically?
Yes. Ontario says the change has been applied automatically to existing EOIs. Registrants do not need to edit their profile or log in just to receive this scoring update.
Keep the distinction between your official profile and a calculator estimate clear. Recalculating on the Turas website helps you understand the points; it does not submit or change information in Ontario's system.
How the extra two points could affect your score
For example, suppose your previous total was 86 and included 8 earnings-history points. If your qualifying CRA evidence places you in the new C$80,000 tier and everything else stays the same, the revised total would be 88. This is an illustration, not a prediction of an invitation cutoff.
Use your qualifying earnings evidence rather than assuming a new job offer's salary proves past income. The earnings-history factor and the job offer's hourly wage are separate parts of the scoring calculation.
Check your updated OINP score with Turas Immigration
Open the updated OINP scoring calculator and enter information that matches your documents. Review the factor breakdown, then note any questions about the evidence supporting your answers.
The calculator estimates points. Eligibility still requires a separate review of the Ontario Workforce Priority stream's requirements. For applicants with a job offer, the employer also has a role in initiating the process and obtaining approval for the position. Self-employed physicians apply without an employer and receive no wage points.
If you are invited, you must submit documents supporting every factor you claimed. Claiming the 10 earnings-history points without a Notice of Assessment showing C$80,000 or more puts your application at risk.
