Accessibility Statement

Immigration shouldn't be harder for anyone because of how we built our website or run our practice. This is what we commit to, where we know we still fall short, and how to ask for help when you need it.

§ 01Our commitment

Turas Immigration is committed to making its services available to all clients, including people with disabilities. We treat accessibility as part of professional service — not an afterthought.

We design and operate the website to align with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and the principles of the Accessible Canada Act for the parts of our practice that fall under federal jurisdiction.

§ 02Standards we follow

  • WCAG 2.1 Level AA for perceivable, operable, understandable and robust web content.
  • HTML5 semantic markup with landmark roles and a clear heading hierarchy.
  • Keyboard-first interaction: every link, button and form control is reachable and usable without a mouse.
  • Sufficient colour contrast between text and background; meaning is never carried by colour alone.
  • Resizable text: the layout responds to browser zoom up to 200% without loss of content or function.
  • Reduced-motion support: non-essential animation is suppressed when prefers-reduced-motion is set.
  • Alternative text for meaningful images; decorative imagery is hidden from assistive technologies.
  • Plain-language drafts for client-facing content wherever the legal context allows.

§ 03What's available now

  • Skip-to-content navigation, descriptive page titles and unique link text.
  • Visible focus indicators on all interactive elements.
  • Forms with associated labels and clear, non-colour-coded error messages.
  • The booking widget supports keyboard date selection and screen-reader announcements for the selected slot.
  • The site works in modern versions of Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge, and degrades gracefully on older browsers.

§ 04Where we still fall short

We test the site continuously, but we know it isn't perfect. Areas we are actively improving:

  • Some legacy PDFs sent during a retainer are not fully tagged; we are reissuing key templates as accessible PDFs.
  • The booking calendar is being audited for full screen-reader parity with the on-screen experience.
  • Embedded maps and third-party scripts (payment provider, calendar) inherit the accessibility of the upstream service; we monitor and report issues to those vendors.

If you find a barrier we haven't listed, please tell us — that is the fastest way for us to fix it.

§ 05Accommodations in service delivery

Beyond the website, we accommodate clients in how we work together:

  • Format: appointments by phone, video (Zoom, with closed captions), or in writing.
  • Language: consultations available in English, Português, and Español. ASL or LSQ interpreters can be arranged with notice; we will absorb the booking fee where reasonable.
  • Documents: on request, we provide consultation summaries and review reports in large-print, plain-text, or screen-reader-friendly formats.
  • Pacing: longer time slots, written follow-ups, or the presence of a support person are available without additional charge.

§ 06Request an accommodation

The simplest way to ask for an accommodation is to email vanessa@turasimmigration.ca with a sentence about what would help. You don't need to disclose a diagnosis or attach medical documentation.

We aim to confirm an arrangement within 2 business days. If a request can't be met as asked, we will explain why and propose an alternative that works.

§ 07Feedback & complaints

We welcome feedback on the accessibility of this site or any part of our service. Email vanessa@turasimmigration.ca with the subject line "Accessibility". Please include:

  • The page URL or a description of where you ran into the barrier;
  • What happened and what you were trying to do;
  • The browser, device and assistive technology you used (if you know).

We acknowledge accessibility feedback within 2 business days and aim to resolve issues within 30 days, or sooner where the barrier prevents you from completing a regulated step.

If you are not satisfied with our response, Ontario residents may contact the Accessibility Directorate of Ontario. Federally regulated services fall under the Accessibility Commissioner of Canada.

§ 08Continuous improvement

We review this statement at least once a year and after any material change to the site or our service-delivery model. Audits include automated testing, manual keyboard and screen-reader checks, and feedback from clients.
